2021 Ballot Measure Spotlight

SPOTLIGHTS
STATEWIDE
PROPOSITION 120: PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT RATE REDUCTION & VOTER-APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE
WHAT IT DOES

Reduces the property assessment tax rate for multifamily and lodging properties. The multifamily property tax assessment rate will lower from 7.15% to 6.5%. The lodging property tax assessment rate will lower from 29% to 26.4%.

WE SAY VOTE NO BECAUSE

This measure would benefit the wealthy at the cost of the rest of us. Colorado already lacks crucial funding for public investments such as education & infrastructure, and reducing the property assessment rate would make these problems even worse. Keeping our public programs underfunded harms the most marginalized in our communities.

DENVER
REFERRED QUESTION 2F
WHAT IT DOES

This measure would repeal the Denver Group Living Ordinance. The Denver Group Living Ordinance currently in place increased the number of unrelated people who can live together from two up to five people. 2F would take away the ability of more than two unrelated people to live together.

WE SAY VOTE NO BECAUSE

This initiative would create more barriers to housing in Denver, making housing more expensive. This measure would take away affordable housing options for working people and students.

INITIATED ORDINANCE 303
WHAT IT DOES

This measure would require city officials to enforce the Urban Camping Ban within 72 hours of receiving a complaint and allows people to sue the city if it fails to clear the camp within that time. Camping in Denver would only be permitted in four designated safe camping sites, with no allowance for additional sites to be formed.

WE SAY VOTE NO BECAUSE

This initiative would further penalize and criminalize people experiencing homelessness. Enforcing the camping ban more severely will not only cost the city an extreme amount of resources, it will do nothing to provide housing solutions. Unsheltered homelessness is a huge concern in Denver, but this initiative lacks a sustainable and equitable solution and would have far too many unintended consequences.

BOULDER
INITIATIVE 300
WHAT IT DOES

This initiative would increase occupancy limits for renters and expand housing access—so that up to four unrelated people would be allowed to live together in a three-bedroom house, up to five unrelated people would be allowed to live together in a four-bedroom house.

WE SAY VOTE YES BECAUSE

Housing is already inaccessible in the city of Boulder and current restrictions increase the risk of homelessness. Young people and students living in Boulder currently face barriers with the current restrictions that are in place – especially when compounded by the growing cost of college, skyrocketing rent, and the high cost of living. This initiative would bring more housing access to the city of Boulder by breaking down barriers.
